PGA THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson 2026 — Golf Picks, Tips & Analysis

Course

TPC Craig Ranch

Location

McKinney, TX

Date

America/Chicago

Course Overview

THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson returns to TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas — the D.A. Weibring-designed layout playing to approximately 7,468 yards at par 72 in the northern DFW metroplex. Named in honour of Byron Nelson, the tournament carries strong prestige within the Tour’s Texas corridor of events. The generous fairways and large Bermuda greens typically produce low winning totals in the mid-to-high teens under par in the warm Texas spring conditions of late May.

What to Look For

Iron play and Bermuda grass putting are the primary performance indicators. The wide fairways minimise the premium on driving accuracy. Late May Texas heat and the potential for spring storms add environmental variables throughout the week. Past champions include K.H. Lee and Hideki Matsuyama.

Tips Coming: Full selections and analysis, from our chief analyst MJ, will be published Wednesday 20 May 2026 approx 3pm AEST ahead of the event tee-off.

STAKING: At PGT, we apply a strict and consistent staking strategy to every tip we publish. All published results on our site are calculated on the basis of one (1) unit per tip, unless otherwise stated. The actual dollar value of a unit (if any) is determined by each individual — it may be for a no-value bet with a friend, or $5 or $50. This methodology is for record-keeping and educational purposes only and is not a recommendation to bet or to bet in any particular way.
Competitor Tip Type Odds Units Result Rationale
Scottie Scheffler Win 3/1(+300) 5.00 LOSS

This week it seems SS in his own backyard will prove difficult to roll, I was a bit reluctant to send this out @ $3 as the majority of events SS will drift to double his price after day 1 due to his usually slow starts, I am always mindful that this is SS @ last year at this event he went -10 & -8 in the first 2 days.

One could argue he was playing sharper golf in 2025.

  • 1st x SG: Total
  • 1st x SG: T2G
  • 3rd x SG: OTT
  • 23rd x Driving Accuracy @ 63.21%
  • 26th x SG: APG
  • 1st x Greens in Regulation @ 71.81%
  • 2nd x SG: ARG
  • 26th x SG: PUT

We have often summarised that SS will drift in price usually, but he may have missed 5-foot putts last week @ PGA Championship, but this course is easy despite being renovated to make scoring more difficult.

SS is however still-

  • 1st x scoring average @ 69.243 per round
  • 1st x birdie average @ 4.88 per round
  • 1st x bogey avoidance @ 10.56%

Again, highlighting this course is nowhere as difficult as last week and as mentioned above SS went -10, -8, -5, -8 for an impressive -31.

As a betting proposition there is absolutely no vale in Scheffler this week, however hard to see him not winning so this week we have bulked up T10 & T20 finishes to improve the return possibility.

It was not hard to get matched for $3 on betfair with 5 units in play. The play with others is to try and cover the total spend this week which is 14 units in total, if SS does blow the field away then hopefully the T10 & T20 can come into play to boost overall.

Tom Kim Top 10 6.8/1(+680) 1.00 LOSS
  • 65th x SG: Total
  • 43rd x SG: T2G
  • 105th x SG: OTT
  • 27th x DA@ 62.50%
  • 36th x SG: APG
  • 31st x Greens in Regulation @ 67.98%
  • 44th x SG: ARG
  • 105th x SG: PUT

Has been on a slow burn of late and much has been reported on changing coaches along with niggling injuries, however TK has gained strokes on approach in 6 of his last 7 measured events and finished T6 at Myrtle Beach in his last start.

TK gained a staggering +8.7 strokes from tee-to-green that week, as advised on a slow burn & $6.80 on betfair is worth the 1 unit to find out if it continues.

Max McGreevy Top 10 8/1(+800) 1.00 LOSS
  • 73rd x SG: Total
  • 22nd x SG: T2G
  • 44th x SG: OTT
  • 19th x DA @ 64.44%
  • 39th x SG: APG
  • 28th x Greens in Regulation @ 68.33%
  • 78th x SG: ARG
  • 144th x SG: PUT

Usually, we would try and avoid a player with only just a bit better than 50% of cuts made from 14 events (8/14) he has however been competing against stronger lines ups than more than 60% of the field in this.

Strong results against top fields such as-

  • T19 @ PGA Texas Children’s Open
  • T50 @ PGA The Players Championship
  • T30 @ PGA Farmers Insurance Open
  • T48 @ PGA WM Phoenix Open
  • T29 @ PGA AT & T Pebble Beach
  • T27 @ PGA The American Express

Why we like MM this week is he has so many rounds in the 66 & 67s & even last week @ the MAJOR he was still able to improve from a day 1 of 76 into a handy 70.

This week he can bounce back and we only need him to T10 & around $8 I consider him value as he is terrible odds to T20 like most are, we have made mention of players being +$400 to win events and you are getting $9 to T20 that’s terrible odds-on offer.

This week we are relying on cold hard data + players who are in our database and are trending in the right direction.

Stephan Jaeger Top 10 8.4/1(+840) 1.00 WIN
  • 68th x SG: Total
  • 88th x SG: T2G
  • 97th x SG: OTT
  • 154th x DA @ 48.51%
  • 129th x SG: APG
  • 116th x Greens in Regulation @ 63.96%
  • 24th x SG: ARG
  • 44th x SG: PUT

We have tipped German SJ a few times now, but he was playing super golf last week until it caught up with him, the course had teeth and some of the worlds best struggled, SJ was the leader early.

His strengths lay once he gets on the greens, this is where he can pick up the field this week in Texas.

SJ has also made most cuts in 2026-

  • 8/12 cuts in 2026 (67%)

Last week @ PGA Championships he was-

  • Rounds of 67, 70, 73, 69 ended the tournament @ -1
  • 9th x SG: Putting @ +5.241 strokes gained

Again, last week where driving was super important, Cam Smith only found 3/14 fairways on the final day, this is far easier and the rough is nowhere as thick, once on the greens SJ can go to work and from all players selected T10 he represents significant value around $8.40 on betfair to T10.

Rico Hoey Top 10 8.4/1(+840) 1.00 LOSS
  • 114th x SG: Total
  • 87th x SG: T2G
  • 37th x SG: OTT
  • 95th x DA @ 57.31%
  • 81st x SG: APG
  • 98th x Greens in Regulation @ 64.91%
  • 150th x SG: ARG
  • 129th x SG: PUT

We gave RH a big push back @ Zurich and he is on a slow improve.

What we sent out-

Rico is still 0 x PGA wins which is so surprising, nearly shocking with those key stats, we do also know he was TERRIBLE putting so despite also sitting in-

  • 2nd in BALL Striking in 2025
  • 8th x SG: APG
  • 2nd x GIR @ 73.11% nearly knocked off 1st

For all his good work through all of 2025 to sit as high as he did amongst the elite of the game but to then lose-

  • Losing -0.997 strokes per round in 2025

He was ranked the 1st, the worst putter on PGA tour in 2025.

To put that into very clear prospective that is -4 strokes per event, he negates all the good so even if he were to go +2.56 SG in APG pre round, he could never win an event with such poor putting figures.

NOW

There was a massive change, a significant change in late 2025 when we started seeing Rico take to the “Broomstick Putter”, thanks to golf.com-

“After losing 10.5 strokes putting over four rounds at the Wyndham Championship, Hoey, who says he has always been a “streaky” putter, opted to make a big change. Hoey started working with his putting coach, Marcus Potter, and his caddie, Bryan Martin, to find a solution.”

The change SIGNIFICANT-

From the PGA Bank of Utah Championships “I ended up breaking two course records with it within the first two weeks. I’m like, all right, I think this is it.”

So, what we saw from October 2025 to the end of November 2025, his last event for the season-

  • T4 x PGA Baycurrent in Japan
  • 2nd x PGA Bank of Utah Championships
  • T21 x PGA Worldwide Technology
  • T22 x PGA Butterfield Bermuda
  • T7 x PGA RSM Classic

Those better results in the back end of 2025 saved his card for 2026 PGA as he finished 54th overall which he sat in 116th before those 5 events.

Now the “Broomstick Putter” did not turn him into an elite putter but it changed that monster deficit into a positive.

So far in 2026 he has been a bit hot & cold from 10 events, but what I have seen with my own eyes is that belief again and he backed it up in his last 2 events, We like back-to-back results-

  • T28 x PGA Texas Children’s Open with rounds of 67, 68, 68, 70 for -7
  • T26 x PGA Valspar Championships with rounds of 71, 68, 70, 72 for -3

Last week in Houston, the difference he only lost over 76 holes –1.260 strokes, wow!

  • 6th x SG: Off the Tee @ +3.525
  • 37th x SG: Approach to Green @ +1.041
  • 33rd x SG: Around the Green @ +0.745
  • 56th x SG: Putting losing -1.260 strokes
  • T28 x SG: Total @ +4.052
  • T20 x Driving Accuracy @ 59.62% (31/52)
  • T34 x Greens in Regulation @ 68.06% (49/72)

We only like him in T10 & T20 markets though as he still needs to improve his putting but with big open greens this week it would not surprise us he is up the top of the leaderboards challenging.

You can grab +$8.40 on betfair currently and I would even suggest trying for much more as there is not much in the pool due to the Scheffler stifling markets.

Jhonattan Vegas Top 10 13/1(+1300) 1.00 LOSS
  • 140th x SG: Total
  • 130th x SG: T2G
  • 95th x SG: OTT
  • 108th x DA @ 55.96%
  • 117th x SG: APG
  • 95th x Greens in Regulation @ 65.04%
  • 134th x SG: ARG
  • 132nd x SG: PUT

JV is another who makes most cuts & is playing better than his stats suggest.

  • 8/12 in 2026 (67%)

He has also now made 4 straight cuts in handy fields & he was a handy 13th in this event last year with-

  • Rounds of -8, -2, -4, -2 for -16 overall

The 13th overall does not sound overly impressive but if we consider that Scheffler was a runaway winner & 2nd place was -23, go back to Sam Burns who finished in T5 @ -17.

  • 4th in BALL STRIKING last week @ PGA Championships, his putting let him down

Generally, JV plays better golf coming into this stretch of June to July, the events are easier especially when the stars go over the pond soon, but JV is around $13 to T10 on betfair and is still @ $5.50 to T20.

100% try getting matched for +$15 & as high as $20.

Erik Van Rooyen Top 20 8.2/1(+820) 1.00 WIN
  • 134th x SG: Total
  • 152nd x SG: T2G
  • 64th x SG: OTT
  • 112th x DA @ 55.50%
  • 152nd x SG: APG
  • 138th x Greens in Regulation @ 62.07
  • 154th x SG: ARG
  • 38th x SG: PUT

Hard to believe EVR finished 2nd last year and we can get $8.20 on betfair to T20. For members who were with us back @ 2025 PGA Barracuda which is basically a birdie shootout and now looking back it is a good form reference as the winner Ryan Gerard has come on strong in leaps and bounds since.

EVR is a noted ball striker & long been in our top 135 players in our rotating database but the main reason we do not select him too often is his poor strike rate for making cuts, he does have excuses as we also reported on his back injury, but he has only made-

  • 4/12 cuts in 2026 for 33.33%

Another player who has now made 4 straight cuts + has 4 results with the best being in his last 2 events with good showings at-

  • T38 @ PGA Myrtle Beach with rounds of 72, 69, 65, 72 for 278 (-6)
  • T17 @ PGA Zurich New Orleans with rounds of 65, 68, 62, 69 for 264 (-24)

EVR is no stranger to The Stig & MJ and now he is shooting for 5 straight results and is showing stronger stats overall, he likes the course as well which is a positive so there is plenty of $8.20 to T20 on betfair, I suggest trying to get matched between $9 & $12, often you will get matched for smaller amounts at a single time rather than bigger bets as a one off.

Pontus Nyholm Top 20 9/1(+900) 1.00 LOSS

Many maybe saying Pontus who?

We at PGT have discovered many good golfers’ way before they have gone on runs but this player from Sweden pops due to his putting prowess.

  • 119th x SG: Total
  • 117th x SG: T2G
  • 124th x SG: OTT
  • 158th x DA @ 45.75%
  • 127th x SG: APG
  • 125th x Greens in Regulation @ 63.43%
  • 47th x SG: ARG
  • 93rd x SG: PUT

We mentioned his strength is his putter, but you will see 93rd in putting, makes no sense right? A closer examination in 2026 reveals this-

  • 5 of his last 7 PGA events positives strokes gained in putting
  • 13th overall in par 5 scoring @ 4.49
  • 1st in approach 50-125 yards
  • 1st in approach 100-125 yards

Of note in the 2026 par 5 scoring Scott Scheffler is 3rd & Max McGreevy is 7th but to be ranked 1st in approach between 50 to 125 yards is super impressive.

The best of his results he has had in 2026-

  • T14 @ PGA Texas Children’s Open
  • T16 @ PGA Puerto Rico Open (won by Castillo)
  • T13 @ PGA Cognizant classic

So, we have seen plenty of his play of late & around $9 on betfair to T20 is very acceptable, there are many of the higher ranked players just not playing at their top either. Another to try & get matched for much higher.

Matt Kuchar Top 20 10/1(+1000) 1.00 LOSS

Stats are from 2025 as MK has only made 3 cuts from 8 events so far in 2026, below though we have highlighted his best skill set in strokes gained metrics.

  • 53rd x SG: Total
  • 95th x SG: T2G
  • 149th x SG: OTT
  • 28th x DA @ 66%
  • 80th x SG: APG
  • 110th x Greens in Regulation @ 66.34%
  • 28th x SG: ARG
  • 24th x SG: PUT

For this event the veteran grinder makes our roster. I personally will be having a few units on @ $10 to T20 as to me he represents a great chance to result.

Sometimes we must dive deeper into stats due to the lack of results & so far in his last 25 starts anywhere-

  • 19 of 25 events in positive strokes gained Putting
  • 19 of 25 events in positive strokes gained ARG

IN the strokes gained metric of around the green of the 6 events he was in negative losing strokes they were all between -0.01 to -0.50 strokes so could easily have 100% and in putting he only had a low of -0.38 strokes lost to a high of -1.22, very insignificant.

The veteran was good in his last event being the-

  • T24 x PGA Myrtle Beach Classic with 70, 69, 69, 68 for 276 (-8)

MK was good IMO with the stats from 4 days combined showing-

  • 20th x SG: OTT @ +1.782
  • T6 x Driving Accuracy @ 69.64% (39/56)
  • 47th x SG: APG @ +0.277
  • T7 x Greens in Regulation @ 76.39% (55/72)
  • 1st x SG: ARG @ +4.448
  • 69th x SG: Putting losing -2.812 strokes
  • T24 x SG: Total @ +3.696

I do not rate this result as an anomaly, MK has won 8 x PGA events and if you go back through 2025 had some very good results, he is a true grinder & if we consider he was 1st around the greens @ Myrtle Beach where Aaron Rai was 27th, Rai deserved last week due to his back 9 play & the Stig & were discussing his monster putt on 17th, it was one of the best I have ever witnessed.

Just repeating my own personal play will see a bit more played on MK to T20 at a minimum of $10, I will be trying for much more price.

Davis Riley Top 20 15/1(+1500) 1.00 LOSS

Not to be confused with the other David (Thompson, we like to include DR when courses are not difficult and putting or shoot outs for birdies can come into play.

  • 152nd x SG: Total
  • 159th x SG: T2G
  • SG: OTT
  • 155th x DA @ 48.09%
  • 141st x SG: APG
  • 144th x Greens in Regulation @ 61.41%
  • 89th x SG: ARG
  • 48th x SG: PUT

We are happy to ignore his failure @ last week’s PGA Championships, IMO he should have bypassed and rested for this instead but his 2 prior events he was very sound with-

  • T45 @ PGA Myrtle Beach
  • T20 @ PGA Zurich @ New Orleans
  • T6 @ PGA Sony Open in Hawaii

I wanted to include the SONY Open as he was a staggering –

  • 1st x SG: Putting @ +11.042 strokes gained

I advised staggering as he finished +1 (71) on day 4 which would have skewed what it could have peaked at because his pervious days were 67, 64, 67 so +4 strokes on avg over on day 4 really does skew the overall.

DR still has managed 23 x T20 is 141 events of his PGA career, this does also include 2 wins on tour for 16.3% strike rate, we can also include results where he was not cut from which increases significantly to 28% strike rate to T20 only. (82 cuts made since 2022)

Currently around $15 on betfair to T20, I have seen as much as $18 on offer so he is another you can try and get matched in lower amounts towards $20, he has not been tipped by anyone that I can find.
