Free tip

PGT’s free tip for this event is Matt Fitzpatrick at anything above 40/1(+4000). Full selections and analysis, from our chief analyst MJ, will be published Wednesday 08 July 2026 approx 3pm AEST ahead of the event tee-off.

Course Overview

The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour and is played the week before The Open Championship. The 2026 edition is at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, a modern Tom Doak design that opened in 2008.

For 2026, the tournament course is listed as a par 70 at 7,282 yards. The routing has also changed, reverting closer to the layout used when the Scottish Open first came to The Renaissance Club in 2019. The revised finish is designed to create more drama, including a stadium-style par-3 15th hole.

What to Look For

This is not a pure old-links test, but wind control, approach play, scrambling and comfort on firm Scottish conditions still matter. The course can reward players who drive it well enough to handle exposed conditions, control ball flight, and avoid short-side misses around firm greens. Recent winners here include Chris Gotterup, Robert MacIntyre, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

STAKING: At PGT, we apply a strict and consistent staking strategy to every tip we publish. All published results on our site are calculated on the basis of one (1) unit per tip, unless otherwise stated. The actual dollar value of a unit (if any) is determined by each individual — it may be for a no-value bet with a friend, or $5 or $50. This methodology is for record-keeping and educational purposes only and is not a recommendation to bet or to bet in any particular way.

With 3 wins in 2026 along with 12 Top 25s plus a change in his driver (now using a PING) he was firing them longer & finding more fairways @ PGA Travelers Championships for an encouraging 4th @ -19.

This week at the famed the Renaissance Club, Matt Fitzpatrick has a very good record compared to next week at his home event The OPEN which is the last major of 2026 & where PGT is shooting for 3 of 4 winners in majors after successfully finding both Rory & WC so far to make it 2 from 3 majors.

Fitzy @ Scottish Open

  • 2025 x 4th
  • 2024 x T39
  • 2023 x Cut
  • 2022 x T6
  • 2021 x T2

Fitzy is just playing good golf, so he really is hard to leave him out of calculations, Rory has such a good record in Scotland as well but we can happily discard Scottie Scheffler not because of his low odds but most importantly he should have beaten Victor Hovland in his recent loss in the playoff at the PGA Travelers Championship, there were little noticeable chinks in his armour already but around $7 is too dangerous to even consider such low odds.

PGA Travelers stats

With rounds of 64, 66, 67, 64 for a strong -19 & of note he started with -6 (64) & finished with a -6.

  • 5th x SG: OTT @ +2.722
  • 1st x DA @ 94.64% (53/56)
  • 17th x SG: APG @ +2.551
  • T33 x GIR @ 75% (54/72)
  • 4th x SG: ARG @ +4.114
  • 37th x SG: PUT losing -0.305 strokes
  • 4th x SG: Total @ +9.083

After bypassing the John Deere last week and returning to England with his brother Alex I expect Matt to be very well rested & I doubt the family pressures of returning home will be a negative as his parents & his own family often tour with him whilst in the USA anyway.

There was plenty of +$40  in early betting for this Genesis Scottish Open but due to his very high rankings in strokes gained total & far better course history than next week in England he is currently around $23 on betfair, normally we would expect between $30 to $40 for any PGA event so I would suggest waiting till after day 1 to back Fitzy on betfair as we may get higher odds, it is a risky play because if he is within 2 strokes of the leader his price is likely to remain the same or a bit lower. It is only a suggestion, but you could also have half of your usual stake & wait or if you prefer to bet & forget then accept the $23.

So far in 2026 XS has managed 9 x T25 & we have tipped him several times previously, but his game is coming together albeit it 18 holes not being strong (usually 1 day) out of the 72 holes played at each event.

To be transparent which we always are I thought personally he has been somewhat disappointing & that is only due to our and many high expectations for Xander, XS has been in winning positions in all of the 3 majors in 2026 but as we saw with our own eyes a 73 on day 2 @ PGA Championships thwarted a real winning chance along with a 73 on day 3 @ US Open.

Why we like him this week is again is his good results at the Renaissance club-

XS @ Scottish Open

  • 2025 x T8
  • 2024 x T15
  • 2023 x T42
  • 2022 x 1st
  • 2021 x T10

From all the analysis from the so-called experts I have listened to so far for this event HS is trending very well despite his 1 day (18 hole) lapse of concentration in majors of late (IMO) we can look at his 2024 as a defining year due to his 2 x Major victories which 1 was on USA soli whilst the other being @ the OPEN which from memory was a Royal Troon GC.

  • His win was what we refer to as defining in 2024 as the scoring average @ Royal Troon was +73.6 (+2.6 strokes) over the par 71 course.

The Stig & MJ have previously selected XS for a reason, he is trending in the right direction & he just needs to NOT miss 1 day of focus around the Renaissance club.

After opening around $23 early on betfair he has really settled @ $25 which has been available for the past 36 hours. He will be another player that for me personally I will risk & play after 18 holes in the hope to get around +$45.

Both Fitzy & Xander are low odds in the betting as they both have good course history, so it makes sense to be as low so early. There are players that we deem better value hence why they are included in the 5.8% of the field.

**our last 2 winners from the last 3 events were found with just a little over 8% of the field & 9% of the field.

Wyndham Clark Win 36/1(+3600) 1.00 LOSS

We try not to go back to the well too often with previous players selected but most players selected are just proving they have been backing up good results of late so they really must be included, sometimes the obvious is right in front of you.

With 2 wins in 2026 along with 9 x T25 Wyndham is still playing great golf with his putter running hot & we love his new mental attitude.

**Note WC is having great results yet his overall 2026 figures off the tee do show from time to time he can hit wayward shots which we saw at the recent win his major victory @ US Open, meaning he can still get up and down on holes, the previous mental version of WC would implode.

He has come a very long way even since we have been tipping him here and there since late 2025.

WC also has a good stable history @ the Scottish Open with-

WC @ Scottish Open

  • 2025 x T11
  • 2024 x T10
  • 2023 x T25
  • 2022 x T16
  • 2021- DNP (did not play)

A case we can easily argue on his behalf for WC is he is now back playing his best golf compared to 2025 which was very hit & miss so to finish T11 back last year he can easily bring his better game and compete into the weekend.

He has his swagger back in full swing & despite opening around $36 on betfair currently he opened @ $32 and we expect him to remain very firm, last week we could not accept the price of Chris Gotterup between $12-$16 on day 1 but after watching him over 3 days the $85 before day 4 commenced was what we considered vale as the Late Mail.

He had to have a big final day which he has always been capable of & we did highlight that in the summary versus non winners on PGA tour, makes sense every time.

Not usually a fast beginner but safe WC could drift to +$50 so I personally will risk and wait, that is me, it is not a recommendation but a suggestion based on what has previously occurred, again if you want to lay is safe then have half your stake on now or half later or just commit to the $36 now on offer.

He is a major winner in 2026 and has won 2 events in his last 5 with strong results in the other 3 (3rd, T11, T5).

For Analysts like us who were waiting for KR to arrive in USA as we gave him some massive write ups even on DPWT he would shoot low 60s easier and more often than most players so after cleaning up a few aspects of his game we now know he will be more consistently featuring on PGA leaderboards.

His 1st PGA victory stung a bit as we had selected him 2-3 times in 2026 plus, we had Rickie Fowler at good odds up the top with 5 holes to go when KR won but we also have to consider now that he has 7 x T25s form 17 events in 2026 so he has been consistently in the results overall.

Returning to Europe can only be seen as a positive as he cut his teeth on links courses and was a 2 x DPWT winner with both victories coming in 2025 (Nedbank +Soudal Open) with his only visit to the Renaissance club yielding-

  • 2025 x T13

Both the Stig & I are not concerned about his overall 2026 PGA stats as his last-

  • 8/10 events are in +strokes gained total

With his game evolving and he can hit as long as most (380 yards) he can make up ground here, he just needs to get his around the greens play on point and the rest falls into place.

To be honest I was a little surprised by the Norwegians price now around $70 on betfair, I did see $120-$140 when markets came out very late Monday night AEST but it was also around 11pm and there was only $13k in the pool.

I think closer to $100 is a fair price & after the market had more money enter the betfair pool by Tuesday morning KR was $50 & has slowly drifted to the now $70, I would expect between this and $85 will be his settled price but in saying that there is only $453k which will grow by at least x 5.

Another player that normally (not guaranteed) starts slow but safely we could easily see his price double/triple if he is 4-5 shots off the leaders on completion of day 1.

The 3-x PGA winner was on everyone’s radar after his 3rd in US Open but he was on the PGT radar long before mostly due to our evolving database where we rank our own players based on sight & stats & have our own rating system, it obviously works as we have 10 outright winners so far in 2026 and possibly #1 IN THE WORLD right now!

After selecting him for T10 only @ PGA CJ Cup Byron Nelson he faltered to finish only T54 then followed that up with another T54 @ PGA Charles Schwab before a strong bounce back with a T6 @ PGA Myrtle Beach Classic.

TK then finished T15 @ PGA RBC Canadian Open & then every analyst wanted to tip him (follow the sheep IMO) we pride ourselves on finding value players before others do, Proven!

**Just on why we have stopped tipping for both T10 & T20 despite all USA services providing each way play options we just do not want to provide a price that is always heavily diluted down with ties & the Stig & I decided we stick with the WIN Only model, it makes money & again proven year on year, some of the longer members do back other markets which anyone can do.

Back to TK, now TK has long had an issue with his putting, it is widely known and not a direct criticism by us, but something has changed recently-

  • 3/4 events have been in +SG in putting

More recently ag the US Open he picked up +1.02 strokes each round in putting & even @ last weeks PGA John Deere Classic which we left him alone as it is not a course that he has had any decent results on, but he was still-

John Deere stats

  • 44th x SG: OTT losing -0.144 strokes
  • T6 x Driving Accuracy @ 76.79% (43/56)
  • 7th x SG: APG +5.312 strokes gained
  • T15 x GIR @ 77.78% (56/72)
  • 60th x SG: ARG losing -1.020 strokes
  • 67th x SG: PUT losing -2.239 strokes
  • T46 x SG: Total @ +1.910

Whilst he still lost putting strokes in putting over the 4 days TK did have a positive day in Strokes gained on Day 3 whilst only losing -0.464 strokes on day 2 & losing -0.351 on day 1.

That is not alarming, the damage came mostly on day 4 when losing -1.686 strokes in putting, you could tell visibly he was already defeated by then, there is a lot to be said & we are true advocates for watching each event, you see so much more than stats can ever tell you.

We believe the shift in gained strokes in putting in 3 of his last 4 will continue in Scotland, TK has a very strong wedge & iron play which is strongly supported by-

  • 13/16 in +strokes gained in APG

Also supported by more than good enough green play (ARG) if he continues like we think he can then his previous good course history around the Renaissance club can be solidified.

  • 2025 x T17
  • 2024 x T15
  • 2023 x T6
  • 2022 x T3
  • 2021 x DNP

With the little Korean finding form at the right time and he did rest at the Travelers before his John Deere appearance he obviously will work on his putting as the rest of his game is ready, having to only focus on 1 club is far easier than having to improve 3 or 4 more other clubs.

TK we are not surprised at his price as he has been well found by most analysts in his last 5 or 6 events, after opening around $70 on betfair there is plenty of $90 available on betfair, due to his course history we like him and his timing right now, I will suggest though @ +$110 sounds more acceptable to us. He usually starts well and he has shot below 68 (on par 71s) in 4 of his last 5 events on the opening day.

This includes 68, 64, 67 & 67 and even the 5th event he still did card a 70 so I would suggest taking the price on betfair now as he may firm after day 1 based on averages alone.

Previously I did summarise that AS was on his last chance with us but sometimes as analysts we cannot look at every stat with blinkers on. There is a reason we liked the Aussie in previous events & that his form so far in 2026 (resurgence of form) does frank how good he is going overall, like 70% of players they all have the struggles of finding 4 consistent days, 3 can be found but 4 is very elusive it seems.

Why, the Aussie is back in favour is his course history just cannot be discounted-

AS @ Scottish Open

  • 2025 x T17
  • 2024 x 2nd
  • 2023 x Cut
  • 2022 x DNP
  • 2021 x DNP

**Of note over 10 rounds @ the Renaissance Club a comparison between AS & #1 OWGR Scottie Scheffler who has 14 rounds completed is very compelling.

  • AS over 10 rounds +1.91 strokes gained per round
  • SS over 14 rounds +1.81 strokes gained per round

On previous events when selected (see the US Open when selected @ $120) for older members check your emails but also it is all on the PGT website as well but we highlighted how his wedge & iron play had been on point and some of his very good rounds over the last 11 events, just a quick touch-

  • 63 x 2 rounds @ PGA The Genesis Invitational @ Riviera GC
  • 64 x PGA Cadillac Championships
  • 66 x PGA Truist Championships
  • 66 x PGA Memorial Championships
  • 64 x PGA Travelers Championships

These are between -6 & -8 depending on the course on average and as advised AS is having difficulty being consistent over all 72 holes (4 days) if he solves this problem then he will absolutely be there when it matters on day 4, he was Cut at both recent majors & that would have hurt especially with so many good things about his appearance being history making at the most recent US Open.

AS was only 65th @ PGA Travelers but his 64 (-6 as par 70) on day 3 saw 7 birdies & 1 bogey looked lie it was the boost he needed for day 4? He bogeyed holes 1 & 4 and both drives were well hit and nice & straight up the fairway, he missed both puts which he left his 2 putts between 1 & 2 feet from the hole, from there on the frustration showed and as much as he tried to recover his day 4 round, he then went on to shoot 3 birdies that was then erased by 2 more bogeys over the following 14 holes.

Yes, players are human, but you could tell it was over for him.

What we need to see this week in Scotland is a confident Scott, after opening late on Monday night @ $80 on betfair there was NO money in the pool, from overnight Tuesday to now on betfair AS was $110 now out to $140.

It is fair to say we have tipped him a few times, but when he goes around closer to $150 than $80 then that is his fair price we can play him, also knowing we know of his propensity to not always have 4 days of consistent golf we accept this die to his price.

Now AS is often a very slow starter, even par is often good after day 1, this also gives us a window where he could blow out quite significantly, again no guarantee but history is history and as long as he does not card something like a 76 (course is a par 70) that will make it very difficult to bounce back to make the cut after day 2.

We need to see a 70 or 71, the latter a worse case scenario but try going half stake now around $140 then save for the conclusion of day 1.

He did open with a 69 in 2025.

HE was only just selected for the PGA Travelers Championship @ $75 where he finished T38 (very in-depth Analysis for the newer members just onboard) including a great interview to boot.

He looked dangerous with opening rounds of 66 & 66 and looked to be warming up until a crash back to earth when he bogeyed the 1st hole on day 3.

Never a good way to start day 3 and it will always crash any momentum.

To his credit HE did try but he was up & down on far too many holes and the end results was even par (70), On day 4, I was watching but he honestly never pushed & IMO he played it safe & he can do that, the polar opposite was with Chris Gotterup last week, he looked to be never out of 2nd gear on 3 days of golf, however when he missed a green or a putt he shrugged it off & his brother commented it in the interview pretty much as soon as he won that they both agreed not much really panned out and sure he had to go -9 on day 4 but many players are similar & if 3 or 4 putts can sink rather than just missing it changes everything.

Harris English gives you that impression, he will however never seem to push if he cannot contend, the run he had from late March into early June (7 events) was super consistent golf & he has only played 3times in the last 5 years in Scotland but I think he is playing some of his best golf especially in 2026 but from what I have witnessed in the last 5 years from him.

HE @ Scottish Open

  • 2025 x T22
  • 2024 x T34
  • 2023 x DNP
  • 2022 x T42
  • 2021 x DNP

As I am summarising, he did win back in 2025 (PGA Farmers) so he is not one of those PGA players that last won in 2021 or similar (many of them) who go winless between 3-5 years but we liked him for a reason previously & if we can find a genuine excuse he can be considered.

He is one of those players on tour & I will point out Tommy Fleetwood who is playing well but can often finish too many times in T20-T30 positions which is never a bad thing for his career but we are trying to find players that are showing us they could with all the right skills clicking to win Outright.

For example, Tommy is $23 to Win versus Harris @ $150 & bluntly put I would not back some players under $70 with your money this week, they have zero chance in Scotland, not pride talking but one thing we do quickly is eliminate those we think cannot.

So, it does not take much twisting of my arm to back Harris over Tommy here, after opening around $80 on betfair, there was NO matched plays @ $100 and there is plenty on offer @ $150, again never rush in early, there could be +$170 on offer before teeing off.

**Usually, a conservative starter which is different than a slow starter HE has now shot under 70 in only 6 of his last 16 events on day 1.

You may want to consider letting him slide until after day 1 is over as it may be around +$300 and honestly if you do not use betfair often, take a look after day 1 and the blow out on prices will surprise you, crazy odds-on offer.

The play it safe option is always take some early and have your remaining stake on later or just back early and accept it.

As the bartender will tell you, “I am not your priest, what do you want to drink”.

If you look at a player like Harris English because he has been super consistent with 9 x T25 in 2026 then we must include SILVER FOX who has 7 x T25s in 2026.

Unlike HE though the kiwi has 2 very good results in the most recent majors with a T35 @ PGA & T23 @ US Open & does have some other strong results littered in his 2026 results with his highest finishes being –

  • T8 @ PGA RBC Canadian Open
  • T7 @ PGA The Genesis Invitational

Although not being super 2 weeks ago @ PGA Travelers Championships with a T66 he was consistent over all 4 days with 71, 71, 71, 67 with his -3 on day 4 better than it reads on paper.

After starting day 4 with back-to-back birdies on holes 1 & 2 it looked like he was going on a run, that was until he missed a few putts he really should have sunk & it affected him with 4 birdies after holes 1 & 2 which were mostly erased with his 3 x bogeys, how ended up with a -3.

Every week we hear about how important it is to chase birdies, I personally do not mind if a player can hit pars, it has after all won the odd golf event by no black marks on the score card, in silver fox’s case he ended up with-

  • 13 x bogeys (T67)
  • 1 x double bogey (T36)

The bogeys equalled (+15) which did reflect in the scorecard & if you are only carding 18 birdies, he did however have 39 pars but if he could have improved reducing the bogeys by 30-40% he would have finished 4 to 4 shots better off and over 4 days that’s a gain of +1.25.

It’s all the little things that can add up.

In both the PGA RBC Canadian Open + US Open which both courses were not easy and especially the latter being @ Shinnecock Hills he was able to steady the ship

Over the last 5 years in Scotland, he has been okay without showing us he will threaten with his best result being a T12 in 2023, interestingly he has not been cut so touch wood he is there on Day 3 and onwards.

Silver fox @ Scottish Open

  • 2025 x T65
  • 2024 x T57
  • 2023 x T12
  • 2022 x T47
  • 2021 x T44

Above, we also think the kiwi is only just starting to hit his straps on PGA since his 1st win @ PGA Mrytle Beach Classic then backing that up with his 2nd PGA win @ RBC Canadian Open in 2025 only 3 weeks later.

He had been on other tours for a long time including 8 other wins (4 DPWT wins) so to be fair he has achieved the 2 PGA wins in only 65 PGA starts.

This is why we weight most players against players like Ben Kohles & or a mark Hubbard wo are around +200 events with NO wins, it is so difficult to win on PGA tour (ask tommy) tongue in cheek.

In the 2026 season alone the kiwi but we will claim him as an Aussie had starts to kick off the DPWT which is both Australian events in Brisbane then Melbourne (late Nov to early December 2025) followed by playing in the Dubai Invitational (the DP tour starts earlier than the PGA played in-

  • 18 events
  • 16/18 cuts made
  • 13 x T40
  • 11 x T30
  • 8 x T25

We are a fan of the kiwi, he can often be in contention when unexpected and we have tipped him 2 or 3 times in 2026 & once when $500 as a Late Mail so yeah, we like him & I just get the feeling that he has a decent win in him before 2026 finishes (only 18 PGA events to go).

What we need to see in Scotland, all 4 days of solid golf with less bogeys, after opening around $140 on betfair there is no support & I see a bit to be matched around $200 ($144) so I suggest trying for +$230 to $250, if you go and accept the $200 then it is harder to get matched higher, it’s a waiting game on betfair & I will suggest you always try for higher.

He is our longshot play along with Noren who is overdue.

Alex Noren Win 260/1(+26000) 1.00 LOSS
  • 50th x SG: Total
  • 96th x SG: T2G
  • 96th x SG: OTT
  • 21st x DA @ 65.66%
  • 143rd x DD @ 284.50 yards (avg)
  • 106th x SG: APG
  • 112th x GIR @ 64.52%
  • 59th x SG: ARG
  • 10th x SG: PUT
  • 12/16 Cuts made in 2026 for 75%

The swede could be the most frustrating player currently in the 130 player PGT database, simply put he is world class (24th in OWGR) with zero question of that fact & he has been a bit of a thorn in our side because we tipped him before he won the 2025 DPWT Betfred British Masters, Which was of no real surprise as advised we tipped him not long before that but he then really got under my skin when he won only 3 weeks later @ BMW PGA Championships, not to be confused with other events this is held at Wentworth GC in England.

That latest win though he had to dig deep and won in a playoff against Frenchman Adrien Saddier, he was then okay in a few events after including the DPWT final (T16) so we went cold off him as he then started too short in most events then out of nowhere, he nearly won in early December with only Hideki Matsuyama standing in his way-

  • 2nd x PGA HERO World Challenge with 69, 66, 67, 64 for -22

It was a playoff win loss to Hideki.

After 6 weeks off & perhaps the playoff loss he lost his mojo but AN went cut-cut before getting into gear with a T29 @ PGA AT & T Pebble Beach, now that is a hard course and very much like the links courses in Europe, then 2 better results followed with his confidence restored with-

  • T24 x PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational with 72, 72, 69, 73 for -2
  • T12 x PGA The Genesis Invitational with 74, 66, 67, 66 for -11

Both course are tough!

After those early cuts in 2026 he went on a nice little run making 11 straight cuts before being sent home early in both the PGA RBC Canadian Open & PGA US Open, I am sure the latter hurts more as the swede does own 12 x DPWT wins to his credit.

We saw enough of him at the recent PGA Travelers where he played all 4 days but was 6 shots better than Ryan Fox was-

PGA Travelers stats

  • 46th x SG: OTT losing -0.694 strokes
  • T19 x DA @ 73.21% (41/56)
  • 68th x SG: APG losing -5.474 strokes
  • T66 x GIR @ 65.28% (47/72)
  • 61st x SG: ARG losing -2.128 strokes
  • 8th x SG: PUT +4.378 strokes gained
  • T55 x SG: Total -3.917

Now I deliberately left out a stat that we love AN for and it is not usually a one off etc, his scrambling at most events which is also evident as to how he can finish under par for the event but lose 8 shots in all other strokes gained metrics other than putting.

His -6 @ PGA Travelers was really an insane good finish & why he is included here this week in Scotland as he will be more comfortable than most the visiting USA players.

For the record he was-

  • 12th x Scrambling @ 72.00% (18/25)

His best result in the last 2 years in Scotland was a T10 in 2024 and was cut in 2025, but he usually bypassed the event before 2022 but of the 12 measured rounds he still does have a +0.63 strokes gained each round.

Most would come from his biggest weapon which is the putter but his wedge & iron play usually and his APG stat is a bit skewed as he had 2 cuts back-to-back in June which saw him lose a total of -5.23 strokes (-2.79 & -2.44) which losing around -2.5 every week on approach play is never easy in any SG metric to bounce back from.

His normal strokes gained approach play was good-

  • 6 straight events previously in + SG: APG
  • 11/12 before the 2 cuts in + SG: APG

I watched a recent interview this week, he had already returned to Europe for this (missed the John Deere deliberately) & although I am yet to watch any warms up from the range, I feel comfortable selecting him despite him now being 3 straight events losing strokes on approach.

Happy to have a play on AN who is around $260 on betfair now after opening @ $170, he quickly drifted out to $200 to then $230 and keeps drifting.

Because he keeps drifting and is yet to find any support, I would try for at least +$350 on betfair.

We want to see his wedge & iron play hitting greens early on the opening day, then his trusted putter can get to work.

**A small reminder that because this is over the pond we will not have to wait until late evening to see the first ball is hit off the tee, it is scheduled for 4pm AEST on Thursday, please check bookmaker times but we send selections out shortly after 3pm Wednesday so it will be around 24 hours before tee off where normally we have 30-32 hours to get set for prices.
